BEYOND EXPIRED

“Beyond expired.”

At the age of thirty-nine, I find myself labeled as “beyond expired.”

An antiquated relic in the eyes of a culture and society that sets arbitrary expiration dates for women. I’m often referred to as a prehistoric dinosaur with anger issues and a wasted uterus, but I’ve never really subscribed to such a mindset, and I NEVER WILL! I’ve never bought into the notion that women have an expiration date marked by marriage and motherhood by the age of twenty-five. And if not by twenty-five at least by thirty-five because IF NOT it will NEVER happen!

If I shared that mindset I might have succumbed to familial/cultural/societal pressures way before now and followed the prescribed path of getting married and having children, but that’s not who I am. Instead, I’ve dedicated myself to helping others find their spark in life, to trust in the Divine plan, learn, heal, and love. I refuse to diminish my worth or allow anyone else to do so because we don’t happen to fit into society’s mold, or the expectations set by anyone and their idea of where we should be at this point in OUR life. My handle says it all, @expirednfabulous. Even during moments when I momentarily gave in to this mentality and wasted precious years of my life, years I’ll never get back, I had a nagging voice that kept saying, “These people are fucking STOOBID!” Most people lack the true awareness of human beings and LIFE.

There are many women, and even men (although they never seem to expire), who have faced tough circumstances, like me. Who started late due to cultural or religious constraints, or simply the fear and uncertainty that often accompanies dating. Women who couldn’t focus on themselves because they were caretakers, carrying family burdens, or perpetual people-pleasers who put others before themselves. Women who crossed the age of twenty-five and even thirty-five without a ring on their finger because they refused to settle for just anyone, for the mere sake of being married or escaping their current situation.

We are the women who are diligently working on ourselves to become the best version of Mrs. Right so that when Mr. Right finally comes along, we’ll be deserving of each other. We’re using this time to build our empires and chase our dreams, because contrary to popular belief, there are women who aspire to construct their own kingdoms without relying on Mr. Right’s assistance. We are the “expired” women who, despite enduring countless lonely nights, and offering up countless wishes and prayers for ‘The One’ to appear, patiently await his arrival while trusting in “God’s plan,” like Drake

So don’t feel sorry for “expired” or even “beyond expired” women like me because some idiot told you women over twenty-five are “expired goods,” whose lives are over. Don’t laugh at us thinking we’re envying your life, boyfriend/fiancée/husband, and crying ourselves to sleep wishing we had what you have. Don’t worry about our ovaries– we’re perfectly fine and incredibly FABULOUS! Beriod!

Yet if you’re struggling to keep your “beyond expired,” head up high- you couldn’t be following a better Queen, because I’m about to teach you every single thing I know about how to take your pain and turn it into your greatest power. Double BERIOD!

Stay FABULOUS,

Faiza
